Also, if you are going to need to have litter boxes in the house, then you want to check ahead of time, and verify that there are good places for them to go where they will be easily accessible to your pets but out of the way so they don't bother the family. You may even want to make sure there are nice window sills for cats to lay in. However, keep in mind you may be able to build little platforms for them, so you can work around things like this in many cases.
